Rihards Vavers is a skilled wing known for his shooting ability, efficiency, and high basketball IQ. A proven floor-spacer, Vavers has developed into one of the top three-point threats at the collegiate level, consistently impacting games with his scoring and ability to stretch defenses.

2025–26

As a junior at Washington State, Vavers appeared in 29 of 32 games while earning starts in the final 12 contests of the season. He averaged 11.7 points per game, ranking second on the team, and recorded 18 double-digit scoring performances. His top outings included a career-high 25 points in a comeback win over Chaminade during the Maui Invitational, along with a 24-point performance against Seattle U.

Vavers emerged as one of the nation’s elite three-point shooters, knocking down a team-leading 73 triples at an impressive 41.2% clip, ranking second in the West Coast Conference and among the top 30 nationally. Over 65% of his 333 total points came from beyond the arc. He also led the team in free-throw percentage, converting 88.9% (40-of-45) from the line. His performance in the classroom earned him West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention honors.

2024–25

During his sophomore season, Vavers played in 16 games, averaging 5.6 points per contest while shooting an efficient 47% from three-point range on three attempts per game. Despite missing significant time due to wrist and hand injuries, he showcased his scoring ability with a season-high 17 points in the WCC Tournament against Loyola Marymount.

2023–24

Vavers began his collegiate career at Quinnipiac, where he averaged 7.9 points and 2.8 rebounds across 24 games as a freshman. He shot 37.1% from three-point range and scored in double figures eight times, including a season-best 18 points against both Central Connecticut State and Saint Peter’s.

High School / Prep

Vavers played at Archbishop Carroll High School under head coach Mike Powell, where he established himself as one of the area’s top perimeter shooters. He averaged 14.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game as a junior, earning Second Team All-WCAC honors. He later spent a postgraduate season with The Skill Factory (TSF) and competed on the AAU circuit with Team Thrill.

International

Vavers has represented Latvia on the international stage, competing with the U18, U19, and U20 national teams in FIBA competition.

Personal

Born in November 2003 in Riga, Latvia, Vavers is the son of Baiba Berzina and Maris Vavers. He has a younger brother, Gustavs, and a younger sister, Laura.
